What Proauthorism is
Proauthorism is a philosophy of declared, transparent collaboration between human creativity and Artificial Intelligence. Born of conviction, not convenience, it defines a new creative doctrine for the age of Artificial Intelligence — one that places transparency, human leadership, and creative integrity at its centre. It does not follow a trend. It sets the standard for human-Artificial Intelligence interaction.
The word was coined in February 2026 by Kevin Martin of Pitch Dark Press — to give the future of human creativity a name.
How the collaboration works
The Proauthorist process is a genuine creative partnership. The human brings the vision, the voice, the architecture, and the creative direction. Artificial Intelligence brings ideas, challenge, research, and drafting capability.
The conversation between them is real — Artificial Intelligence challenges, raises possibilities, and takes the creative idea in unimagined directions. The work that emerges is richer for it. The whole, in this case, is genuinely greater than the sum of its parts. It could not have been made the same way by either party alone.
The declaration
Where Artificial Intelligence has been part of the creative process, it is declared openly. Always. That declaration is not a disclaimer. It is a statement of pride.
What Proauthorism is NOT
Artificial Intelligence is being weaponised by bad actors flooding the creative industries with machine-generated work that has no human vision behind it. The damage is real and growing — publishers and platforms are being forced to reconsider how they operate, and some are looking at charging for services that were once free, simply to deter the scammers. The legitimate creative is paying the price for an abuse they had no part in.
Proauthorism draws a clear line between that exploitation and genuine human-led creative collaboration. They are not the same thing. They should never be spoken of in the same breath.

Pitch Dark Press
Proauthorism was born out of the work of Pitch Dark Press — an independent publishing imprint founded by Kevin Martin and operating under the motto Publish and Be Damned. It is also a statement of real intent.
Not all Pitch Dark Press titles involve Artificial Intelligence collaboration — some are entirely human-made. Where Artificial Intelligence has been part of the creative process, it is declared openly — on the cover and in the text, as a matter of principle.
